Fun. We can’t underestimate its value. Especially these days.
I saw people having fun on our Long Beach shore. If you step back and think about it, they were simply playing.
Yes, playing. You remember when you played on your block or in your backyard? Getting along well with others? Most of the time.
None of the people I saw this week were Republicans or Democrats. They were just fellow fun seekers—together. And that’s a good thing. We need to be more together. Like friends in our backyard sandbox.
There was a threat to the eastern seaboard of America; a nor’easter was tearing up from the Caribbean.
You’ve heard that wind that could be unlucky for one person, but good for another?
Well, the high surf that tore into coastal properties, especially in the south, did bring Long Beach fantastic surfing ops and photo ops, too.
Playing on the sea with wooden boards was Polynesian fun in the early 1700s as I reported in 2015, in the Mass Shooting of Curls.
And so today, hope rose with the surging tide for fantastic fun.
But by my observation, on Oct. 13th, the sea was way too rough for most surfers.
A Skudin Waverunner carried a surfer past the beach I was on, but the surfer never deployed.
However, on the 14th of October, the surfers had their eyes on the prize. Twelve-foot waves, one after the other.

And at Monroe Beach, he…

…And many others were on the sea for fun.
This surfer sculpts an airborne sea fan for us.

Beautiful life, enjoying life, on and above the sea:

A short video:

It’s not often that the surfer coordinates his board color with a ship. But it works, and you get extra points for that, your dudeness:

Is this the face of fun, or what?

There’s intensity—and fun—in his face, and many others.

And long may they play in their world of water fun.
Be well,
