They came united, these Americans.
They came from both sides of the aisle, from many religions with many skin tones, skin tones many chose to show so much of.
They came by car, by bike, pushing strollers, toting tykes.
They came to take the plunge…or to witness the icy dives.
They came to support a very worthy cause, yes, but they came to have fun too.
These are the Make-Wish-Polar Bears. And they come to Long Beach, NY every year on Super Bowl Sunday.
From tots to teens to the totally retired, they girded their shivering loins around shriveling body parts and… took the dive.
I took almost a thousand photos, edited to eighty, of our darling and daring, Americans.
There were sights to see by the sea. But what stood out most in these most troubled times, was the uniting. The uniting in fun, the uniting in laughter, the uniting in joy.
I’ve said enough. Now enjoy the pics:

Pat, they were very happy faces,
if somewhat frozen, as you say. It was folks just letting it all hang out and creating memories to carry the rest of their lives. Moments I hope to have helped preserve.
Semper Fi back at ya, Marine!
